This past Sunday quarterback great Eli Manning threw out the first pitch at the Mets vs. Reds game to help Pampers salute Fathers across the world. On hand to participate in the special Father's Day festivities were a plethora of families including my own.
Just prior to Eli Manning and his 14 month old daughter Ava's big moment on the mound, my family of 7 had the rare opportunity to meet the football celebrity. I'm uncertain who was the most excited. We are a big football family with our oldest son a senior on his H.S. Football team, our second oldest an 8th grader with big quarterback aspirations, our daughter who dreams of dancing at the football games, and two (almost) four year old boys who spend a lot of time at football games with hubby and I.
The entire household is still talking about the experience days later. I mean seriously, we met Eli Manning! However, what seems to keep coming up in conversation the most is while Eli Manning is indisputably a football phenomenon, he also struck us as a pretty normal dad. And I should add that I've gotten to know several P&G Pampers employees over the years who also give me that same caring parent vibe, which is probably why the fit between Manning and Pampers seems to be such a good one.
At the opening of the ballgame, our kids and I took to the grandstand seats to watch the action with our "MVD". It was a first time attending a major league baseball game for our daughter and the twins but they quickly got into it donning mets hats and waving foam fingers. The older boys and Daddy took turns explaining "strikes", "balls", and "innings" to the major league newbies while feasting on baseball stadium staples like hotdogs, pretzels, french fries, and popcorn. I noticed I was just one of several mommies whipping out the Pampers travel wipes to erase those sticky fingers and messy faces.
The special Father's Day touches were continued through out the game most notably on the video scoreboard. For example, the "extra" stats on each player included their Father's Name. Additionally, there were a few surprise Happy Father's Day messages from soldiers actively serving our country abroad to their dad attending the game. There were even a few Father's Day video greetings from Pampers and Eli Manning.
What an amazing day! We hated for the events to come to an end and luckily Pampers did too. Pampers is continuing the celebration of dads beyond Father's Day. Beginning tomorrow (June 20th & also our twins 4th birthday!), families can log on to the Pampers Facebook page and visit the “Most Valuable Dad” tab for a chance to win exciting prizes for dads and their little sluggers. Disclosure: Please note, I am a Pampers Baby Board member and I was invited to attend and cover this event with my family by P&G Pampers. Pampers provided my full transportation, accommodations, and a themed gift basket. However my opinions are completely my own and I have not been compensated to publish positive or negative reviews of the event or products associated with my experience.
