Fall is Football

In some households fall may conjure up visions of autumn leaves, apple orchards, or even pumpkins but around here the first word that comes in mind when one mentions Fall is Football.

My only daughter, a girl among 4 brothers, will likely make one of the best girlfriends any football player could ever ask for by the time she reaches high school.  Not because she's so into playing the game herself, but because our household largely evolves around football each Fall.  On the outside she may appear to be your average 11 year old girl attending dance classes and matching her headbands to her hoodie, but conversation about the high school football team will reveal much more.

I think Cordelia shocked herself the other day when she was able to explain what an onside kick was to a friend.  She's well ahead of where I was at her age.  I only truly grasped the game play, behind the scenes workings, and time commitment when supporting my own sons.

The twins have picked up a lot from their older brothers football games as well.  Their backyard games are not for the average four year olds.  In fact, they play so intensely with each other we had to add the use of flags to keep them from full out tackling each other.  They love going to the high school games to watch big brother "tackle people" or the junior high games to watch their other brother "get touchdowns".

So what's Fall for you?
