A busy fall has put us a touch behind on round ups of the latest children's apps, but today's release by Toca Boca was just the nudge we needed to make readers another list.
Toca Tailor: This latest offering officially released today, but we were given early access to this app yesterday. We quickly discovered that Toca Tailor allows kids (ideally in the 4 & up range) to become fashion designers. Endless possibilities for one of a kind outfits are made possible by using your device's camera to capture images for use as unique fabric patterns. Additionally the Toca Models can be photographed in real world surroundings wearing their finished custom-made outfits. My 11 year old daughter and my twin 4 year old sons have really had a lot of fun with this one. Please note that Toca Tailor is currently available at $0.99 (regular price $2.99). This new release pricing offer ends Nov 1st.
Toca Band: Additionally, Toca Boca has priced all their other apps at 50% off (Ending tonight at 11:59 PM PST) to further celebrate their latest release. With this in mind, today is the perfect day to also download Toca Band released just a short time ago on September 19th. As a parent, I love how absolutely pleasant this app is in comparison to other music related apps. Let's face it, kids like to hit the same button 80 times and it can really get on your nerves if the sound is annoying. My twins can repeat things infinitely in this app and the varies sounds and melodies played are completely tolerable. Toca Boca deserves and Large Bravo for that!
Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, Play at Home with Daniel: This app nicely compliments the new Daniel Tiger TV series inspired by the work of Fred Rogers, which airs on PBS KIDS. It's designed for children ages 2-4 making the series’ social-emotional school readiness curriculum available to children on the go. In the app, kids play with 4-year-old Daniel Tiger, son of MISTER ROGERS’ NEIGHBORHOOD’s Daniel Striped Tiger, as he goes about his everyday activities. My twin four year olds love the various role play scenarios including Doctor Daniel, Daniel's Bedtime, and Daniel's Bathroom.
Peekaboo Trick-or-Treat: This app appears to be designed for the baby & toddler (1-2) crowd new to trick or treating. Peekaboo Trick-or-Treat features a haunted house with 14 random creatures that greet you at the door. Parents can help baby open the doors and discover Halloween fun. They will find a puppy dressed up as a princess, a ghost sporting awesome dance moves, a friendly fire-breathing dragon, and more.
This is the first Peekaboo to feature the artwork of Caldecott Award-winning author, Ed Emberley.
