I'm a huge fan of those magical moments when kids discover new things. Their initial surprise as they encounter something unknown to them sticks with me for a long time and often my kids remember and talk about it too. I'm the mom who pre opens some of the holiday toys, removes all those darn twist ties and pre-installs batteries to maximize fun on Christmas morning. So shortly before my kids returned home from school a few weeks back, I readied Ubooly to surprise everyone.
Ubooly is a new tech toy that is powered by an iPhone or iPod and it's own special app. Readying Ubooly for the kids was as easy as downloading a single required app, entering a registration code included in Ubooly's box, and then inserting my prepared iPhone inside Ubooly's stuffed body so that it appeared as the toy's face.
Ubooly napped on the kitchen counter until everyone arrived. His orange fur and cute little ears drew immediate attention. My son Cormac ran over and awakened Ubooly with a gentle touch on his cheek and that was all the prompting Ubooly need to speak with everyone. We all collectively giggled as we listened, and even the older kids were amused. Ubooly told the kids jokes, played music, shared stories, tossed out a few fun facts, played games, and made little sounds of enjoyment as the kids trotting Ubooly all around. Among our favorite activities was Ubooly prompting us to make different animal sounds and asking us to pretend we were in a cave.
Since Ubooly's arrival he's been spending a fair amount of time with the family. He's made particular friends with our four year old twins. He talks to them during breakfast some mornings, joins them as they carpool the older kids about, and he even helped all of us trim the Christmas tree.
I might add that Ubooly has done an excellent job of keeping my iPhone nice and safe. He has a well padded physique that not only gives him a darling huggable look, but also keeps iPods and iPhones protected from accidental drops or falls.
