My twin four year old sons have been hard at work on their Christmas List the past few days.  Their combined list doesn't get down to specifics as much as last year's did and I'm beyond thrilled with them giving Santa a bit of freedom to choose.  The list reads something like this:  Superhero Stuff, Star Wars Stuff, a Bow & Arrow, Electronic Toy Stuff, and Building Stuff.


Frequent readers likely know by my regular app round ups that the twins LOVE to play on our iPads.  With that in mind, I was beyond thrilled to help Santa find the PERFECT items to qualify as Tech Stuff on their list.  I was even happier to find that this new line of Technology Enhanced Educational Toys for Pre Schoolers was from the makers of the highly popular brand Little Tikes.

iTikes is a line of toys that can be played with alone or can be combined with Apple devices to further enhance a child's play experience.  I had the chance to check out one of the items in this line, the iTikes Canvas, to see just how it all works.  Alone, the iTikes canvas works much like any other magnetic doodle and erase style board.  You draw a picture or words on the board with the attached stylus and erase with a lever at the bottom.

The real fun is what else it can do though.  By downloading the free iTikes app and replacing the magnetic board on the iTikes Canvas with mom or dad's iPad, your preschooler now has a very high tech drawing board at their little fingertips.  There are coloring pages, games, and more all designed to engage and teach the kids.  Side shape buttons serve as stamps that can be placed on the artwork.

The iTikes Canvas is just 1 of the 4 toy tech products in the initial iTikes line.  The other play items include an iTikes Map Explorer that can be used with an iPhone or iTouch, an iTikes Microscope that can be combined with an iPhone, iPad, or iTouch, and an iTikes Piano that can also combine with the iPad iTouch, or iPhone.
